For those of you who still aren't quite sure what RP actually means (or at least aren’t too familiar with how to actually do it), this is the board for you!! Here we will explain all the basics including:
An overview of how RP works, terminology, code of conduct and anything else you want to know!
If you're still confused, feel free to post questions and we'll try to help you the best we can!
Try to post things that will keep the story moving rather than lead everyone to a dead end! Most plotlines have a goal that all the characters are striving for. You don’t want to be the one who posts and leaves everyone without a clue how to proceed and advance towards the goal.
Pay attention to what’s going on in the story. It’s okay to try and lead the plot in a certain direction, but some of us have a tendency to post something completely random and out of context because we want our character to accomplish something aside from the main plot. Remember that keeping the main story progressing is more important than our side plots (engaging in a side story like that would be good for the General RP board).
Don’t forget that the main point of Role Play is to interact with other characters, so respond to each other. Keep your character involved with others and with the story.
NEVER try to control other players’ characters. You can always ask a character to do something, but how they respond to you is up to the other players. (On the flipside, try not to consistently refuse other characters’ requests – especially if it holds up the plot)
NPCs: If you really need a character to do something for you, you can always make up an NPC (non-player character). Basically an NPC is someone besides a main character that is made up to serve some purpose in the plot. Pretty much anyone has free rein to create and control an NPC and how they interact with the main characters, as long as they are necessary to move the plot.
OOC: Out of character means you need to say something as yourself, not as your character. Try to keep ooc posts out of the Ongoing Role Play threads - you can post ooc in the RP Discussion thread. However, ooc is fine in the General RP board.
Sometimes people use ((two parenthesis)) to represent OOC.
